US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia will halt fighting effective this evening. This announcement follows a series of deadly border clashes in recent days that have resulted in at least 20 fatalities and displaced around half a million individuals.

During a news conference after his call with Trump, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul mentioned that a ceasefire hinges on Cambodia's actions, requiring them to cease hostilities, withdraw troops, and remove all landmines.

In a post made on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump declared, Both leaders have agreed to CEASE all shooting effective this evening, and go back to the original Peace Accord made with me. Both Countries are ready for PEACE and continued Trade with the United States of America.

The border dispute began escalating on July 24 when Cambodian forces bombarded Thailand, prompting retaliatory airstrikes. After a short but intense conflict that left many dead, a preliminary ceasefire was previously brokered but further violence had erupted this week across several provinces in both nations.

The longstanding territorial dispute along the 800km border has its roots in historical conflicts dating back over a century, since the borders were delineated post-French colonization of Cambodia.
