UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated he is not going to yield to pressure from US President Donald Trump regarding involvement in the Iran war. This statement comes after Trump expressed dissatisfaction during an interview, indicating that the UK was not present when the US requested assistance.

During Prime Minister's Questions, Starmer reiterated, I'm not going to change my mind, I'm not going to yield, it is not in our national interest to join this war and we will not do so. He highlighted his long-standing position against the conflict, emphasizing, It is not our war, a lot of pressure has been applied to me to take a different course.

Starmer's firm stance follows Trump's claims that the UK has not supported the US during pivotal moments, which the US President argues has weakened the special relationship between the two nations. He went as far as labeling Starmer no Winston Churchill for his refusal to endorse direct military involvement.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves echoed Starmer's sentiments, expressing frustration over what she termed Trump’s folly in initiating the war without a clear exit strategy, which she believes affects families in both the UK and the US.

As the conflict progresses, there is growing concern regarding its impact on the UK economy, with recent IMF forecasts indicating that the UK might be among the hardest hit advanced economies due to rising energy costs and market instability.

Trump's comments also included scrutiny of the UK's immigration and energy policies, describing them as insane, while maintaining that his long-standing relationship with King Charles would not be impacted by the current political tensions.
