In a shocking turn of events, rapper Gucci Mane was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint in Dallas earlier this year, leading to the arrests of eight men—including Pooh Shiesty, a fellow artist signed to his label, 1017 Records.
Prosecutors allege that Pooh Shiesty, born Lontrell Williams Jr., led the ambush under the false pretense of a meeting, subsequently holding Mane captive in a recording studio and coercing him to sign release papers from his contract.
Gucci Mane, who gained fame through collaborations with stars like Usher and Drake, founded his label in 2007, with Williams Jr. signing as an artist in 2020. The defendants are currently awaiting trial, facing potential life sentences if convicted.
According to a federal complaint, eight of the nine defendants were arrested on charges of kidnapping and armed robbery. Investigators have also reported that one suspect is still at large, with ongoing collaboration with Georgian authorities to apprehend him.
The incident took place on January 10 while Williams Jr. was reportedly under house arrest for a previous firearms conspiracy conviction. The court documents state he was accompanied by eight co-defendants, including his father, Lontrell Williams Sr., who are all implicated in the crime.
A sworn statement from the FBI reveals that Williams Jr. brandished a “black AK-style pistol” during the incident, pressuring Mane to sign the documents. He is also accused of stealing personal possessions, including a wedding ring, watch, earrings, and cash from Mane.
Some of the suspects were reportedly aggressive towards additional victims in the studio, with one person suffering injuries and losing valuable property. Prosecutors indicated that the robbery was not just a simple heist but a terrifying ordeal for the victims, who believed their lives were at stake.
In a twist of irony, hours after the robbery, several defendants flaunted jewelry that appeared to belong to the victims on social media, leading to further investigations.
Representatives for both Gucci Mane and Pooh Shiesty have not yet responded to requests for comments regarding the ongoing case.
